Biography

He was a professional musician Attached is some information about his parents taken from the "Index of Church Servants in the Moravian Church in Great Britain and Ireland from 1740". Reports of their missionary work are published in the “Periodical Accounts Relating To The Missions Of The United Brethren, Established Among The Heathen”. It doesn't appear that their son Warren Theodore Clemens was a minister, so it has no information about him in the "Index ..." There is an entry for his brother Godfrey Jackson Clemens (1878 1934), and another for Frederick Warren Theodor Clemens (1889-1916), but assume that is his cousin? However, the ‘Index of Church Servants …’ just lists the ministers, not the members of the congregations.

According to the 1891 Census, Warren Theodore was at Fulneck Moravian Boys School (near Leeds) with his older brother Godfrey Jackson: a boarding school where Moravian missionaries and others sent their children whilst abroad. Godfrey became a minister, but later withdrew in 1911 to join his brother in Aberdeen - Godfrey died in 1934 in Aberdeen.

The 1901 Census shows that Warren, at that time 20yrs old, was lodging with the Watt family – the head, James Watt, was a tea merchant – at 42, Hartington Rd, Aberdeen working as a Professional Musician. The copy of Warren’s marriage certificate you kindly provided states that he was still living in Aberdeen when he married in 1914. There was only one Moravian Church in Scotland (at Ayr), so he would not have any opportunity to continue worshipping with the Moravian Church, and may have found a local church to worship at.

Do you know when Warren Theodore died? Just that there is a Mrs Warren T Clemens in the phone directory at 42 Goldington Avenue, Bedford in 1937. The fact that it is registered in the wife’s name suggests that she is either widowed or he is away?
