Biography
This profile is part of the Whiting Name Study.
Marion was the daughter of John Clements, butcher and Grace Rutherford of Kaitangata. Her parents are buried at Kaitangata Cemetery.
Marion married in 1915 to Charles James Whiting, a miner and son of Francis Whiting and Sarah Clemens of Picton.
She had four children, Colin, James, Grace and a daughter, name unknown during her marriage to Charles.
In 1927 Marion became a registered midwife and worked into the early 1930's.
She was widowed in 1921 when Charles died age 33 and she remarried in 1928 to Duncan Gillies, orchardist of Clyde, Otago. The marriage took place at the Clyde Presbyterian church. Three* children were born during this second marriage.
Marion and Duncan settled in Clyde and moved to Kakanui, Oamaru in 1944. Latterly they were living at Karitane at the time of Duncan's death.
Marion died in 1980 age 86, and is buried at Oamaru Old and New Cemetery. BLK 219 PLOT 15.
