Biography

Jane was born in August 1818 in Forsyth County, North Carolina. She is the daughter of John Clemmons and Mary Huffman. She passed away September 1903 in White County, Georgia.

Jane married Samuel Carroll about 1835 in Macon County, North Carolina. A marriage record has not yet been located, however, their oldest child, John Carroll, was born about 1836 in North Carolina. Samuel is listed on the 1840 census in Macon County, North Carolina.[1] They had children:

  2. William Carroll, 1837. NC
  3. Russell Elijah Carroll, 1840, NC
  4. Rachel Minerva Carroll, 1842, NC
  5. Mary "Polly" Caroline Carroll, 1846, GA
  6. James Carroll, 1848, GA
  7. George Carroll, 1852, GA

Samuel and Jane moved to Georgia about 1845. They are living in Frogtown, Lumpkin, Georgia on the 1850 census.[2] In the household:

  • John Carroll, age 14, b 1836, NC

In 1870 Samuel is back with wife Jane and they are living in White County, Georgia.[4] In the household:

  • Caroline "Polly" Carrell, age 23, b 1847, GA. Domestic servant
  • George Carrell, age 18, b 1852, GA, Digging Gold

Following Samuel's death, in 1880 the widowed Jane Carroll is living in Hall County, Georgia along with her daughter Mary Carroll in the household of brothers John and Samuel Pascoe. Jane is listed as widowed, age 63, born 1817 in South Carolina, a Servant; Mary is listed as single, age 34, born 1846 in Georgia, a Servant.[5]
