Biography

Ruth, born in 1891 in New York City, was the daughter and eldest child of Stephen Cleveland and Frances Folsom. She was born during the time between Cleveland's first and second terms as president. Ruth attended Miss Fine's School, founded in 1899 and now known as Princeton Day School, located in Princeton, New Jersey. She died on the 7th of January 1904, only five days after being diagnosed, from diphtheria in Princeton, Mercer Co., New Jersey. ^[1] Ruth is buried at Princeton Cemetery, Princeton, Mercer County, New Jersey, USA^[2]

The Curtiss Candy Company asserted that they named their Baby Ruth candy bar for her, the first child born to Frances and President Grover Cleveland.^[3] However, the candy bar wasn't renamed until 1921 at the height of the legendary baseball player's, George Herman Ruth, "Babe Ruth", career.
