Biography

Mary Clifford was the daughter of Sir John Clifford KG, 7th Baron Clifford, and his wife Elizabeth Percy, daughter of Hotspur. She married Sir Philip Wentworth of Nettlestead, born about 1424, son of Margery le Despenser, the widowed Lady Roos, by her fantastically expensive bit of rough. [1] [2] [3] [4][5]

Issue:[4]

  • Sir Henry (ancestor of King Edward VI)
  • Margaret, wife of Thomas Cotton Esq[6]
  • Elizabeth, wife of Sir Martin de la See of Barmston.[7]

Sir Philip was beheaded by the Yorkists after Hexham in 1464.[8] His widow Mary was buried at the Friars Minors Priory at Ipswich, Suffolk.[9]

Her birthplace is misspelled, it should be Westmorland, without the "e"
