Biography

William Clift, born 4 Apr 1805 at Stonington, Connecticut, was the second child of Eunice Denison & Nathaniel Clift.

He married twice, both at Stonington:

1) 18 Jun 1833 Bridget Fish; ceremony performed by John G. Wightman, Eld [1]. They lived in 1840 at Groton, Connecticut [2], They had 2 children:
  1. Mary H (Clift) Foote (1836-1903); married Edward Y. Foote
  2. Hannah F (Clift) Ives (1838-1916)
Bridget (Fish) Clift died 17 Sep 1845. William Clift thereafter married--
2) In 1846 Elizabeth A. Burrows [3]; ceremony performed by Rev. James Floy [4]

In 1860 William Clift was living at Groton, New London, Connecticut [5], with his second wife and daughters. In 1870 he was living with both daughters and Foote children [6].

In 1880 William Clift was a widow. He and his daughter Hannah were living in Connecticut. [7]

William Clift passed 21 Oct 1882. He is interred at Elm Grove Cemetery, Mystic, New London, Connecticut, with both wives: Find A Grave: Memorial #80405025
