"CLYDE C. CLIFTON, 73 of Lodi died November 18 in a Lodi hospital. The Lodi native was born December 29, 1920.
He moved away as a teenager. Mr. CLIFTON entered the U.S. Army, served in the Tank Corps and was a POW in Germany for a year before escaping to his freedom. He returned to California after the was.
Mr. CLIFTON was a sign painter for 25 years before retiring in the mid-1980's.
He attended schools in Acampo and Lodi and was a member of English Oaks Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
Mr. CLIFTON is survived by his wife, Beverly Clifton of Lodi; a son, Darrel Clifton of San Jose; a step-son Eugene Rong of Manteca; two daughters, Dawn Chambrus of Washington and Angela Martin of Lodi; a step-daughter, Dana Warn of Lodi; a brother, Jack Clifton of Missouri; a sister, Darlene Whitmarsh of Magalia; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The memorial service is 2 P.M. Tuesday at Rocha's Mortuary with elder Glen Woodard of the English Oaks Seventh-Day Adventist Church presiding. Internment will be private and there will be no visitation.
