Biography

Charles Frederick Abney-Hastings, 1st Baron Donington (1822-1895) was the son of Thomas Joseph Clifton and Hetty Treves. He married Edith Maud Rawdon-Hastings, 10th Countess of Loudoun, daughter of George Augustus Francis Rawdon-Hastings, 2nd Marquess of Hastings and Barbara Yelverton, Baroness Grey (of Ruthin), on 30 April 1853.

He was given the name of Charles Frederick Clifton at birth and in 1859 Charles Frederick Abney-Hastings, 1st Baron Donington title's name changed to Charles Frederick Abney-Hastings by Act of Parliament. He was created 1st Baron Donington, of Donington Park, on 4 May 1880.
