This timeline is largely based on the genealogical biography of Peter Cline ("The Clines and Allied Families") written by Cecil L. Cline and published in 1998:[1]
Peter Cline was born about 1756[2] in the Palatinate region of what is now Germany. NOTE: Peter is sometimes said to be son of Nicholas Cline and Mary Crieger (but they were apparently married in 1768).
Between 1775 - 1777,[2][3] Peter Cline enlisted in the U.S. Army,12th Regiment of the Pennsylvania Line and fought during the Revolutionary War.
In 1778 in Virginia,[4] Peter Cline married Elizabeth LNU.
1786 - land records in Montgomery County, Virginia[5]
In Oct 1787 in Montgomery County, Virginia,[6] Peter Cline (plaintiff) and James Addair (defendant) had a lawsuit presented by their attorney in county court, which awarded Peter Cline the sum of 40 shillings.
In 1792,[7] Peter Cline was living (& paying taxes) in Montgomery County, Virginia; he was taxed for 3 horses.
On 25 Oct 1797 in Montgomery County, Virginia,[8] Peter Cline received a survey of a 47 acre plot of land along the Cornellius Branch of the New River. Such a survey would typically done if one intended to purchase a tract of land, but it is currently unknown whether Peter Cline purchased said land.
On 5 Apr 1809 in Montgomery County, Virginia,[9] Peter Cline, James Adair, and David Mount made a marriage bond of $150 for the intended marriage of Peter Cline's daughter, Margaret Cline, to David Mount.
In 1810,[10] Peter Cline was living in Montgomery County, Virginia as head of household, which included (age range): a) males - 1 (< 10), 2 (10 - 15), 1 (45 & older); b) females - 1 (10 - 15), 1 (45 & older).
On 5 Jan 1820 in Floyd County, Kentucky,[11] Peter and Lizzie Cline signed a marriage consent for their son, Peter Cline, Jr., to marry Mary Smith
On 1 Feb 1820 in Floyd County, Kentucky,[12] Peter Cline, Sr. and David Mounts made a marriage bond of 50 pounds for the intended marriage between Peter Cline, Jr. and Mary Smith.
In 1830,[13] Peter Cline was living in Pike County, Kentucky as head of household, which included (age range): a) males - 1 (10 - 14), 1 (60 - 69); b) females - 1 (70 - 79).
On 3 Sep 1832,[2] Peter Kline submitted a pension application based on military service in the Revolutionary War. In his pension application, he stated that he was aged 76 years and currently a resident of Pike County, Kentucky. The application was submitted to the Montgomery County, Virginia Court, and it has been speculated that he did so while visiting a daughter, Sarah (Cline) Honaker, who lived in Montgomery County, Virginia.
Peter Cline died about 1843 and probably in Logan County, Virginia (currently Mingo County, West Virginia.[14] [15] Note - neither the Find a Grave memorial page[14] nor the excellent book by Cecil Cline[1] provide compelling evidence of the location and date of death of Peter Cline.

NOTES
Possible Daughters: Mary (Polly) Cline 1796–1873, Jemima Cline 1806–1849
According to Find a Grave: Peter M Cline born 1756 and died 1841 was married to Elizabeth Riffe. Both dates are "about" on this profile, but need to confirm this is the correct Peter. There's a huge range of dates for Peter married to Elizabeth Riffe. The marriage record has no date at all. It's also improbable that Elizabeth would be the mother of Michael b. 1778 if she herself were not born until 1767. There is more than one Elizabeth Riffe, though the same birthdate is assigned to two of them. It seems more prudent to list Elizabeth's DOB as before 1762. This also brings up the question of her parents. Both Elizabeth Riffe Wall and Elizabeth Riffe Cline are listed with the same parents.
Also left notes on some of the sources that may be problematic.
