Biography

Birth, Marriage, and Death

Lewis William Cline was born to Eli Cline Cline-2451 and Jane Elizabeth Davenport Cline Davenport-2939 on 3 March 1872 in Forsyth County, North Carolina.

Ellen George of Vienna Township, and Lewis William Cline of Lewisville, were united in marriage on 14 August 1898 in Forsyth County, North Carolina. Ellen was a daughter of Salina George. The line in the marriage certificate where her father's name should have been reads "not known". Ellen was twenty eight years old and Lewis was twenty one. [1]

Seventy seven year old Lewis, a reitred farmer, died on 18 August 1949 and was buried in Pfafftown Cemetery, Pfafftown, Vienna Township, Forsyth County, North Carolina. This information comes from his death record where we also learn that he was married. The informant named on his death certificate was Mrs. Minnie Cline. The cause of death is, of course, written on the certificate, but I am unable to read it. A copy of the certificate is attached to this biography for anyone who may want to read it. [2]

Memorial ID 71537856 [1]

Information from US Federal Census records

1900: Lewis, a married farm laborer who can neither read nor write, is living in Vienna Township, Forsyth County, North Carolina. Also in the home are his wife Ellen and son Junius George who is eleven years old.

1920: Lewis owns his own farm now on Vienna Bethania Road. He and Ellen are living alone, and Junius is a neighbor. [3]

1930. Lewis is a widower living alone in his home at 130 Bethania Road. The home is valued at $300. He does not live on a farm, does not own a radio set, and has not been to school. We do not know if this is the same house he and Ellen were living in in 1920. The name of the road is different, but that could have changed without him having moved. [4]

Research notes:

A son age 4, W. L. Kline, appears on the 1880 census for Eli and Jane Kline. [5] I believe this is Lewis W. Hennings-109 15:38, 25 February 2016 (EST)
