Can a family member or fellow genealogist take over management of the private profiles you created?
Please consider this carefully. If there is someone, go to the Profile Manager Changes tool. Select "Replace." Enter their e-mail address. Make the appropriate selections and proceed.
Unless someone else can manage them, delete all profiles of living people.
Deletion is never a good option. It permanently wastes WikiTree's limited resources and harms the community in subtle ways. See the Deletion FAQ.
However, if there are profiles of living people that nobody is willing to manage, they need to be deleted.
Here is the deletion form. Use option one or two. Do not use option three ("Delete all private profiles including your account profile") before reading the rest of this page.
Note that the deletion form won't let you delete any profiles that anyone else has touched. If any of these contain sensitive information on living people e-mail the list of IDs and an explanation to info@wikitree.com.
Either one of these ends your participation on WikiTree and you will receive no further e-mails.
Deleting an account profile is appropriate in these three cases:
Delete your account profile by using option three on the deletion form. This will leave empty spaces and dead-ends in place of any links to your account.
First remove any private information you don't want to remain on your profile. You may wish to follow the anonymization instructions.
How you leave your Preferred First Name and Current Last Name will determine how your name appears in the history of contributions you made as a member.
You may choose to leave your family relationships intact if any of your nuclear family members are non-living or their profiles are managed by someone else.
If you want to make sure that family members don't add you back to WikiTree in the future, add a comment or message in your biography saying this.
You may also want to leave a comment or message for other members explaining why you no longer participate on WikiTree. Some want to leave contact information for distant cousins who might find the profile and want to exchange information offline.
To close your account, delete the e-mail address from the edit page of your profile. Note that you will need to click "Save Changes" twice since a warning will pop-up to confirm that this is the last thing you want to do as a member.
Unless someone else is managing it, your closed profile will be managed by WikiTree-1 and can be reopened by e-mailing info@wikitree.com.
