Lewis was born about 1654. Lewis Clothier ... He passed away in 1684.[1]
Lewis emigrated to Maryland in 1665 with Richard Howard who is registered in the Maryland Land patents: "Richard Howard demands land for the transportation of Lues Clother and others".[2] There is a record of Richard Howard obtaining patents in Talbot County, Maryland, 3 years later, "1668 Batchellors Range, 250 Acres; Patent Developer/Owner: Howard, Richard, Patent Record 12, p. 71".[3] This may be Richard Howard but there are very few details on his profile.
Lewis married Susan Knapp about 1670. Lewis's wife Susan was the daughter of Robert and Elizabeth Knapp who gifted two tracts of land "Knaps Lot" 150 acres and "Jordan's Hill" 200 acres to Lewis and Susannah Clothier on 7 November 1670, presumably on their marriage.[4] Robert's patent and certificate for Knaps Lot are listed online "1665 Knaps Lott, 150 Acres; Certificate, Developer/Owner: Knapp, Robert Patent Record 8, p. 133 MSA S 1600-2132".[5] Robert died in 1682 and mentioned in his will "grandson Robert Cloathier, son of Lewis Cloathier" and "granddaughter Mary Cloathier". Grandson Robert was to inherit the plantation after his grandmother's death.[6]
