Jeremiah Clough is the son of Jeremiah Clough and Deliverance Leavitt. Deliverance died in 1736, probably in childbirth. According to a birth record from August 1900, Jeremiah was born on 10 August 1738 in Canterbury, Merrimack, New Hampshire, United States.[1] However, his gravestone records his birth as 10 August 1736. Jeremiah died on 10 July 1819.[2]

The Will of John Leavitt, Jeremiah’s grandfather, dated 23 Dec 1726, is filed at Concord, New Hampshire (Wills, vol. 7, p. 638), and leaves to wife Deliverance the improvement of his estate; to daughter Deliverance, at age of 18 or at marriage, one-half the estate; if she has a male heir her share is to go to him; if not, it is to go to John Levet, son of "cousin" Thomas and grandson of Aretas. The estate, inventoried at £1029, included a halberd and some books.[3]

Family Background

Leavitt, John, Sergeant, married May 28, 1701, Deliverance Robie, probable granddaughter of Henry Robie. Their daughter Deliverance, born May 6, 1719, married Nov 7, 1734, Jeremiah Clough, of Salisbury; she died Oct 31, 1736. Sergt. Leavitt made his will Dec. 23, 1726; inventory, Feb. 24, 1727. [4]
