Birth

William Walter Clower Jr. was born on 26 April 1901 in Mississippi, United States to William Walter Clower (1873-1950) and Mary Anna Josephine Owen (1872-1910) as the third of seven children.

Siblings

  1. Claude Douglas Clower born 9 August 1897 in Mississippi, USA. He died on 8 September 1919 at sea.
  2. John Mansell Clower born 26 July 1899 in Mississippi, USA. John married Dorothy L. Mobley (1904-1941) about 1916. He died on 13 April 1956 in Belzoni, Humphreys, Mississippi, USA.
  3. Mary Elizabeth Clower born 5 July 1903 in Mississippi, USA.
  4. Velma Clower born 25 September 1905 in Shrock, Attala, Mississippi, USA.
  5. Laverne Clower born 1 November 1907 in Canton, Madison, Mississippi, USA.
  6. Joe Thomas Clower born 15 January 1910 in Canton, Madison, Mississippi, USA. In about 1929 Joe married Virginia Bates (1914-1991). He died on 31 August 1952 in Clarksdale, Coahoma, Mississippi, USA.

Marriage

He married Gertrude Willie Hardy about 1926. There is no evidence found of children for this marriage.

Occupations

In 1927 he was an employee of the city of Macon, Georgia. The 1930 census says that he was a machinist at the Cotton Gin and in 1940 he was the Gin Manager.

Military Service

His headstone says that he served in the United States Navy Reserve in World War II as an S1.

Death and Burial

William died on 11 October 1963 at the age of 62. He was buried in the Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Greenville, Washington, Mississippi. Find A Grave: Memorial #38261800 Headstone photo available.
