Trying to find documentation linking my g-grandfather Richard James (R J) Clute with his parents. Born @1847 in Canada, RJ married my g-grandmother Emma (Mariah Emelina) James from Missouri. Settled in S. Dakota. Had 5 children including my grandfather Henry "Perry" Clute.
RJ Clute's parents may be John Ferguson Clute b. 1814 and Jane Pomeroy Clute b 1825. *Note: 1851 Census, Canada West, Hastings County, Sidney Township, Part 1, District 7, 7639 lists John F Clute; Jane Clute; and Rich'd J. Clute, age 5. I believe records were incorrectly transcribed using the last name as Chite. Ancestry also lists the record under Rich'd J Chite. Included in the census were Margaret M Clute (Chite), age 3; and Daniel and Sarah Pomeroy. Could the Pomeroys be Jane Clute's relatives?
