Margarette Ann Elizabeth Kluttz was born in 1878, the daughter of Jacob Relaford and Amanda Cornelia (Whitman) Kluttz, in Rowan County, North Carolina. Her parents moved their family to Texas in around 1890.
Margarette was 26 years old when she married James McDonald "Mack" Farmer, the son of William Alexander and Martha Matilda (Slaughter) Farmer, on January 23, 1895, in Texas. They initially settled in Hunt County, Texas, and had a large family as follows:

Mack was a farmer. Across the years his and Margarette's growing family would move to Kerr County, Texas, and finally on to Kaufman and then Rockwall County, Texas. This is where Margarette died in 1939 at 60 years old and Mack died in 1940 at the age of 71 years. Their bodies are buried together in the Royse City Cemetery in Royse City, Rockwall County, Texas.
