Biography

Phoebe Clyborn (Clyborne, Claiborne) was born about 1735 in Chesterfield County, Virginia, the daughter of John and Jeanette or Jean Clyborn. While multiple records exist to document the presence of the family in Chesterfield Co., no records are known for Phoebe's birth, marriage or death.

Phoebe reportedly married William Robertson in Chesterfield County in the 1750's. The couple had at least six children: Richard, John, William, Sarah, Susannah, and Mary.

Around 1782, Phoebe's husband, William Robertson, moved to Bedford County, Virginia. He is shown on the Franklin County (formed from Bedford) Settlement Map in 1782. A John Cliburn is also shown on the Settlement Map, believed to be Phoebe's brother. Although undated, John Cliburn appears in multiple land records in the immediate vicinity of William Robertson and at about the same time. Some researchers report this John Cliburn as the husband of Elizabeth Robertson, sister of William. More work is necessary to confirm those sources.

We don't have a date for Phoebe's death but we do know William Robertson married the widow Anna Preston secondly. Based on the estimated ages of William and Anna's children, Phoebe probably died very shortly after relocating to Bedford Co., circa 1782-1785. One of the few records available for Anna Robertson is dated 1792 so we know her marriage to William Robertson occurred prior to that date.

Clyborne-2 and Clyborn-3 appear to represent the same person because: They both have the same husband and son. The surnames are spelled slightly different but the profiles are very similar.

I think Clyborne-3 should be merged with Clyborn-2, as Clyborn-2 has better sources and is better developed.
