Note: He was a young child when the family migrated to Ohio. He became a farmer and bought property in Holmes Township next to his brother, John. He moved his family to Steuben County, Indiana in 1849. He was one of the earlier settlers in Fremont Township and one of the original patent landowners. He "was poor when he came here and has held his own ever since." (That was a direct quote from him originally published in the Steuben-Republican newspaper in 1879).[3]
