Note: He was one of the youngest children and the youngest son. His brothers called him the baby of the famiy. He married his step-sister, Experience Showers, shortly after her mother, Mary Showers, married Alfred's father, Asa Cobb. About 1855, he and his family moved to Iroquois County, Illinois, along with his brother, Jedediah Cobb, and his family. He and his son, Hartzell, lived with them for several years. His daughter, Eliza Jane lived with her Uncle Henry and Aunt Sally Cobb in Illinois for a few years and then moved back to Ohio with them.
He married a widow with at least two children, Clarence Kirby and Anna Kirby, in 1867. They moved to the southern part of Illinois in the 1870s and lived there until October 1879 when they moved to Joplin, Missouri. They stayed there only a few months and moved to Carthage, Missouri in February 1880. Two years later they moved to Golden City, Missouri.[5][6][7]
