William Cobb was brother-in-law of Henry Massengill who had married his sister Mary Cobb, and father-in-law of Henry's son Hal Massengill, who had married his daughter Penelope. Hal and Penelope inherited the home of William Cobb, which home had been used as the first capitol of the Southwest Territory (consisting of all US holdings south of the Ohio River), part of which would eventually become the State of Tennessee. This home is preserved by the State of Tennessee as the Rocky Mount Living History Museum after having been donated to the State by a Massengill/Massengale descendant.
