Robert (Cobbs) Cobb Sr. was a Virginia colonist.

Robert Cobb, son of Ambrose Cobb, was christened in Willesborough, Kent, England on Jul 1 1627. This means he had to of been born at least before that and his birthday could have not been after this. We can confirm without a doubt that his birthday was at least before July of 1627[1] He and his father arrived in Virginia before 1639, his father was his sponsor. [2]

Robert, the son of Ambrose, became the York County Anglican Church Warden of Marston Parish two years after the death of Ambrose. He was York County’s Justice of the Peace in 1676, and High Sheriff of York County in 1682, “the year Robert died.” At that time Robert’s son, Ambrose, was a member of Bruton Parish in Williamsburg, and helped build the Bruton Parish Anglican Church, which is still operating today.[3]

Robert was executor of his father estate and later removed to York County, Virginia just outside present-day Williamsburg. He is believed to have married Elizabeth Thorpe a relation of Maj. Otho Thorpe. He served as a vestryman of Bruton Parish Church in Williamsburg from 1674 to 1683 during the period in which the first brick church was built on the present site.[4]

Robert inherited Cobbs Hall when Ambrose died in 1656, and he immediately sold the property to Michael Masters, who then sold it to John and Thomas Burton that same year. In 1704, a son of Thomas Burton sold "Cobbs" to John Bolling, and though it continued to be known as "Cobbs", the property remained in the possession of the Bolling family for over a hundred years.[3]

Cobbs-30 and Cobbs-17 appear to represent the same person because: I have re-Proposed the merge based on the information from the other profile manager, please merge.

(Cobbs-30) and Cobbs-17 ARE the same person. Cobbs-30 has an *impossible* YOB because he was *Christened* in July 1627.

DOB on Cobbs-17 was copied from other researcher's work and the Find A Grave, so it reflects what is currently accepted according to sources that are linked in the sources section conveniently. If anyone has a primary source for the birth, since we DO HAVE ONE for the Christening, that would be great.

Cobb-5048 and Cobbs-30 appear to represent the same person because: Different birthdates, but these are two profiles for the same man. Please merge Cobb-5048 into Cobbs-30. Thank you!

Actually 1627 is christening date birth not known but brother christened in 1625 so probable very close. This file needs to be cleaned up and sources have links that either take you no where or don't have access to. There is no need to to have in biography the birth ect it's in the profile . It's just what the Ged file puts in

Cobbs-190 and Cobbs-30 are not ready to be merged because: Need to compare birthdate and other date sources or make a note of differences on profile. Not just arbitrary choice.

Original year of birth, from wilkey_peterkin.ged, was "Abt. 1632." The same file gave his date of death as 29 Dec 1682.

Multiple sources appear to agree that he was born in County Kent, England. There is some disagreement as to an exact location. Marriage in 1655 appears to be likely, in York. Co., VA, USA.
