While there it is said that he attended a garden party at Buckingham Palace, and was also given the honour of being presented with the keys of the city at a civic reception in Bournemouth. Towards the end of his life Alf lived at 392 Broadway, Wellington, but in the year prior to his death, he resided at Pen-y-Bryn Convalescent Home at 118 Hataitai Road. Alf died on 3 February 1962, aged 93 years.
He passed away in 1962 aged 93 years [5].
