Biography

John was born before 1862. He is the son of Thomas Cockayne and Harriet Hazeldine. [1]

PAPAROA

The interment took place yesterday ; at'St. Mark's (Anglican) cemetery, of anr'Olfl settler of the district, Mr John Cockayne Parsons, who passed away in' the- AVhahgarei Hospital on Sunday. 'Deceased' came to New Zealand with his parents with the Albertlancl settlers 'in" -1862,. and the - family settled ongrtke-Paht - River. lie - was thnn Q years o%ageV'-“Sithsequently the family moved, to Auckland.- As a young man, Mr; Parsons afterwards went to Tonga, WheregVhe employed in business for - a time -with his people. In 1881, he married Miss Minnie Louisa Blake, and returning to New Zealand- Mfryears ago(he settled on the family’s. .former holding, where he continued farming, until the family removed ,to Paparoa township, where Mrs iP'strsons conducted the well known- 1 boardinghouse with marked success for 25 years. About two years ago, Mrs Parsons relinquished business, and the<. couple moved to Whangarei. Mr Parsons continued active work, gardening, etc., in his retirement.^, MrV and Mrs Parsons celebrated their golden wedding in 1931.
