Biography

Harriet Louisa Cocker was born in 1830 in Little Eaton, St Alkmund parish, Derbyshire, England to John Cocker and Frances (Buxton) Cocker.

Harriett Louisa Cocker, daughter of John, a tailor, & Frances, residing at Little Eaton, was christened on 28 Nov 1830 at Saint Paul's in Little Eaton.[1][2]

In 1841 Harriet Cocker (age 10) lived at Little Eaton in Derby St Alkmund with Harriet Boam (35-39), Marey Boam (20-24), and Betsy Blancher (15-19).[3] Harriet's family also lived in Little Eaton: father John (35-39), mother Frances (35-39), and three siblings: William (6), Agnes (2), and John (0).

In 1851 Harriett Luisa Cocker (age 20, Assistant) lived in Ipstones Village, Staffordshire with her aunt Louisa Buxton (37, Schoolmistress & Shopkeeper).[4] Harriet's family still lived in St Alkmund parish: father John (45, Tailor), mother Frances (49, School Mistress), and three siblings: William Buxton (16, Assisting His Father), Agnes Maria (11, Scholar), and John Edwd (9, Scholar).

Harriet Louisa Cocker (age 28, Spinster, Schoolmistress, residing at Little Eaton, daughter of John Cocker, Tailor) and Richard Foster (age 23, Bachelor, Butcher, residing at Epworth in the County of Lincoln, son of William Foster, Butcher) were married on 23 Aug 1859 at St Alkmund's Church in Derby, Derbyshire - the witnesses were WIlliam Buxton Cocker & Agnes Maria Cocker.[5][6] The marriage was registered in Derby in the third quarter of the year.[7]

Harriet and Richard had eight children:

In 1861 Harriet Louisa Foster (age 27) lived at Chapel Street in Epworth, Lincolnshire with her husband Richard (25, Butcher), daughter Agnes Maria (1), son Richard John (0), grandmother-in-law Elizabeth Foster (66), nurse Hannah Fawcett (65, Nurse), and servant Hannah Clark (16, House Servant).[8]

In 1871 Harriet L Foster (age 38, School Keeper) lived at Chapel Street in Epworth with her husband Richard (35, Butcher) and six children: Agnes M (11, Scholar), Richard J (10, Scholar, Frances L (7, Scholar), Mary [Harry] Scarbro (5, Scholar), Edith M (3, Scholar), and William Buxton (1), as well as servant Sarah Anne Parkin (16, General Servant Domestic).[9]

In 1881 Harriet S[L] Foster (age 47, Certificated Schoolmistress) lived at Chapel Street in Epworth with her husband Richard (45, Butcher (Out of Employ)) and five children: Frances S[L] (17), Harry S (15, Errand Boy in Druggists Shop), Edith M (13, Scholar), William B (11, Scholar), and Ciceley M (9, Scholar).[10]

Harriet Louisa Foster, aged 59 years, the wife of Richard Foster, passed away on 26 Apr 1890 and was buried in Epworth on 28 Apr 1890.[11][12] Her death was registered in Thorne, Yorkshire [the RD for Epworth] in the second quarter of the year.[13]

She is buried at St Andrew Churchyard in Epworth with her husband: "In Memory of HARRIET LOUISA, wife of Richard Foster, who died April 26th 1890, aged 58 years. Also of the said RICHARD FOSTER, who died [...] 1900, aged 64 years."[14]
