His parents were George Cockram and Mary Gibson Hyla was educated at Whynham College, Adelaide, S.A. and at the School of Mines, Gawler, S.A. He was described as 5' 9" tall ,Dark complexion; dark hair; dark brown eyes and weighing 228lbs. ^[1] Hyla married Sarah Jane Sykes (known as Sadie) in 1913, in New South Wales, Australia. By about 1915 Lieutenant Hyla Edwin Cockram was working as a steam shed inspector. His sevice No. was M, # 15733 Hyla died in Manly, New South Wales, in 1966 ^[2]
