Events

{geni:about_me} Recent research brought to light that Johann/Jan Kotze, SV had another son, Hans Jurgen Kotze, the eldest of all his children, with his first wife. The sequence code of the “B”-generation of the descendants of Johann/Jan Kotze, SV, therefore shifts 1 position, e.g. the “genealogy code” for Rooi Dirk, the son of Johann/Jan Kotze, SV and Hillegonda Boone, is now b3 and not b2 as usually presented. See the discussion in the “About” section of Johann/Jan Kotze, SV’s profile (http://www.geni.com/people/Johann-Kotze/341679608550002996). [3]
Dates of birth (and here and there dates of death) for the children of Rooi Dirk has been taken from a document transcribed from a set of notes written by Jan Ernst Heydenrich (1751-1815), husband of Francina Helena, b3c11. The transcription was published by CJ Raath in 1974 in Familia #1 Uitgawe 4, p102-110. [3]
In 1786 is Dirk Jacobus Kotze oorlede. [6]

Dirk was born in 1728. He passed away in 1786. [7]

I've been working through death registers trying to find documentary evidence of the death date of my 5th great grandfather Dirk Jacobus Kotze. I cannot find any record for him in 1786, but I have found an entry for Dirk Jacobus Cotzee at the beginning of the February 1787 death entries in the "Civil registration (deaths), Cape Colony, 1758-1833" records held by FamilySearch. This entry indicates he died in Swartland. The link to the relevant record is https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CSVH-99J9-X

I believe Dirk Kotze (Kotze-324) and Dirk Jacobús Coetzè (Coetzè-11) are the same person - please consider merging Kotze-324 into Coetze-11 (as the primary record).

Thank you.
