Biography
My uncle Doc(Theodore Coffey) told me that the mother and her children came to Michigan via Erie Canal, they used the family cow to help pull the barge. He also told me that this particular Coffee family came to New York from Nova Sdcotia. I have found some Coffee's on the 1750 ship from Nova Scotia. Elisa. Coffee, Coffee, James Coffs, Coffee-negro, Coffee-negro. They arrived in Halifax within the first year of Halifax's founding. Nelson was born about 1818. Nelson Coffey ... He passed away about 1902.
