"The affiant is the wife of claimant and waits upon him; that he requires partial aid, care and attention of some one to assist him in dressing and undressing and attending to the calls of nature; that I assist him in bathing and in taking off and putting on his underware and clothing; that claimant is confined to his room and to his bed part of the time by reason of rheumatism and resulting disease of heart. That affiant prepares and gives his medicine." Her address at the time was Clipper Mills, Gallia County, Ohio. Harriet filed a Claim for Accrued Pension on 8 March 1905 when she appeared before a Probate Judge in Gallipolis, Ohio. Her residence was listed as 704 2nd Avenue, Gallipolis, Ohio. She was swearing that Jehu Rose had died on 3 March 1905, that pension payment had last been made on 4 December 1904. The statement also confirms the previous marriages of both Jehu Rose and herself and states the dates of death of both previous spouses and the date of her marriage to Jehu. ID Number: MH:N89 MH:I191
On 20 May 1905, Mary K. Coffman, aged 27 years, a resident of Gallipolis, Ohio appeared in court to give an affidavit on behalf of Harriet Rose. Her relationship to Harriet is not known at this time. Her statement was as follows: �That affiant has known the claimant all of affiant�s life; that she lived with the soldier from the date of her marriage to him until the date of his death, 3 March 1905. That she is now his lawful widow, never having remarried since the soldier�s death.� General Affidavit found by Elizabeth Hathaway on behalf of Harriet Rose for accrued pension of Rev. Jehu Rose given 20 May 1905 as follows: �That affiant knew the claimant prior to her marriage to James Hamilton; that she was married to Rev. Jehu Rose at my house in Clay Township, Gallia County, Ohio; that she lived with the soldier from the date of his marriage to the date of his death, March 3, 1905. That she is his legal widow and a noble christian woman and one of our best citizens." - General Affidavit found in pension file of Jehu Rose made by his wife, Harriet Rose.
