LINDSEY "JOSH" POWELL COFFMAN 1856-1918

On the 2nd of January 1856 Lindsey Powell Coffman was born in Casey County, Kentucky the son of John "Jacob" Coffman and Nancy Ann Ellen ELLIS Coffman. Lindsey was one of 8 children.

L.P. Coffman who was granted a DIVORCE by the Circuit Court last week was married at the Court House yesterday to Miss Alice McCowan. It was Judge Davison's 1st ceremony & was a very impressive one. The marriage was set for Wed, but Coffman's neighbor's threatened a CHARIVARI and he postponed it a day.

Lindsey Coffman married Alice McCowan on March 14, 1895.

From what I have heard about Lindsey, he was a ladies man and he didn't stay faithful to either of his wives. My Aunt Elsie Wilson, told me that Lindsey also had illegitimate children. She said that her mom, Ethel really didn't talk about her childhood much. Aunt Elsie did tell me that when Lindsey died, my grandmother was 10 years old and she went to live with John Coffman**, Lindsey's brother is my Great Grandfather.

Some of the Coffman's used the different spelling for their name - KAUFMAN, KAUFFMAN, CAUFFMAN, CAUFMAN by choice.

Lindsey Coffman died on the 28th of February 1918 in Lincoln County, Kentucky at the age of 61 years, 1 month, and 26 days. The cause of death was Angina Pectoris with a full meal as a contributor. Most likely Lindsey thought he had indigestion as angina feels like pressure on your chest and heart burn. His death certificate states he was buried on March 1, 1918 in Montana, Kentucky. Lindsey's parents were John and Nancy Coffman of Casey County, Kentucky. Informants name not given.
