Biography

Samuel Coit, born in 1708 at Plainfield, Connecticut, was the second child of Experience Wheeler & Joseph Coit.

Samuel Coit was a Colonel who raised a regiment in Norwich in the Revolutionary War, about 1758. He was a representative in the General Assembly of Preston City in 1761 and subsequent years. he was a judge, bench of county court and maritime court during the Revolution.

This branch of the family became known as the Preston Coits.

Samuel Coit first married Sarah Spalding in 1730 and had eleven children…Isaac, Benjamin, Samuel, William W. (Capt.), Oliver, Wheeler, John, Sarah Spalding, Joseph, Isaac #2 and Olive.

After Sarah's death, in 1779 he married Mrs. Jemima Hall.

Samuel Coit died 4 Oct 1792 at Preston, Connecticut. [1]
