Obituary

The Southern Democrat newspaper microfilm July 14, 1907 by Joan Pass Ellis, Cleveland, AL

Sarah Jane Coker Henson Ellis wife of the late Rev. Obed Ellis, born in Hall Co., GA, Jan 7, 1835 died at Rosa, AL, Jul 3, 1907.

She was converted and the Methodist Church at the age of 12 years. Was twice married, born Sarah Jane Coker, she was first married to G. A. Henson. This union God blessed with 3 children all of whom he has already called to himself.

Second to the Rev. Obed Ellis. This union God blessed with 5 sons. All of whom lived to morn their severe lost.

It is truthfully said; a good woman has fallen. She was a woman of no pretention, but wore the rope of humility and deep piety that always characterized her life and convinced all about her the truth of the deep Christian spirit that ruled her every day life.

It was the writers priviledge to live next door to her for 5 years. During that time He was often called around her fireside where the open Bible was found and there with her two noble sons who were then school boys we often talked with the Lord. It was indeed a benediction to be in her presents.

The church has lost a faithful member and noble worker; society a worthy woman example; the children a devoted mother whose life was a continual pointer toward the cross of Christ.

Her last sickness continued for a number of months. But while her body grew weaker and the cares of this world less, her faith in God stronger and her desire for the rest at the right hand of God grew more and more intense.

She said to the writer on his last visit during her conscious hours "I am just waiting for the call to come." "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord."

Burial

Cleveland Cemetery, Cleveland, Blount Co., AL
