Elizabeth (Coker) Spier was a Virginia colonist.
Elizabeth (Coker) Spier was part of a Southern Pioneer Family.

Elizabeth was born about 1700 in Virginia. She is the daughter of Caleb Coker. She passed away about February/March 1774 in Pitt County, North Carolina.

Elizabeth married James Spier about 1720, probably in Virginia.[1]

Elizabeth Speir was named in the will of her father, Caleb Coker, dated 11 June 1748 in Edgecombe County, North Carolina. Her husband, James Speir, was named co-executor with Caleb's wife, Mary Coker.[2]

Mrs. Elizabeth Speir was witness to will of Matthew Scott, Pitt County, North Carolina, dated 26 August 1771 & proved 6 December 1771.[2]

Death & Legacy

Elizabeth's will was dated 9 October 1773 and proved on 23 March 1774 in Pitt County, North Carolina. Abstract of will:

Nephews: Joseph Warren, William Smydick, Marke Mesell
Other legatees: Mary Smydick, John Smydick, Edmond Smydick, Famaler Smydick, Mary Meesel, Elizabeth Warren, Joseph Warren, James and Mathew Scott, William Meesel.
Executors: Mark Meesel and Joseph Warren, Jr.
Witnesses: Geo. Evans, John Hardee, Major Harris.
Proven before Jo. Martin[2]

Research Notes

Spears, Spier and Speir are sometimes used interchangeably. Spears is the correct spelling.

Coker-2017 and Coker-166 appear to represent the same person because: both daughter of Caleb Coker; both married to James Speir/Spier; both died in North Carolina. Dates and places need to be reconciled, they differ slightly.
