Newton Cole grew up in Minter City, Leflore County, Mississippi. NF graduated from Mississippi A&M College with a degree in agriculture and, after WW2, he worked with Mississippi Agriculture Extension Service. He eventually settled back in Leflore County with the Minter City Oil Mill. Later, he bought some land and farmed several acres of cotton and soy beans while still working as a bookkeeper at the Oil Mill.
Military Service
Newton F. Cole was a Senior in college at Mississippi A&M University when he entered the army in WW2. He entered basic training at Camp Shelby, Mississippi and the university mailed him his diploma. He was assigned to Battery B, 328th Field Artillery Battalion, of the 85th Infantry Division. He served in Italy with the rank of Staff Sergeant.
