Biography

Anne Cole was born to Hugh Cole and Sarah Bishop on 5 January 1772 during their time in New York, British Colonial America. When she was quite young her parents moved to Virginia and not long after, to North Carolina.

On 22 July 1791, she was united in holy matrimony with Irishman James Johnson with whom she spent many long and happy years. They joined the controversial Methodist Episcopal Church under the tutelage of Tobias Gibson shortly after they married and she gave her heart and service to God for the remainder of her life. Methodism at the time was unpopular with the world, an experimental religion and preached against by many. [1]

James Johnson, her beloved and husband passed away in 1852 at the ripe age of 90, and Anne died at Shaw's Creek, Henderson County, North Carolina on 25 January, 1857 at 85 years old.

Together, James and Anne had at least nine known children.
