Byrd Garland Cole was a pioneer settler in Walker County, Alabama and lived there most of his life. He was born in Buncombe County, NC, and married his first wife, Sarah Gudger, while he was there. It is unknown where she is buried. She may have died in Buncombe County, NC before Byrd moved to Alabama.
Byrd first appears in Alabama in the 1830 census in Limestone County. In 1840 he appears on the Walker County census and he remained in Walker County until his death. Byrd is believed to be buried on the property that he homesteaded near Sipsey in Walker County. His grave is unmarked if it is in this cemetery. Byrd's second wife may have been Billie Harrison. Frances Raines was his wife at the time of his death in Walker County.
