John Cole was the younger son of William Cole. He lived at "Newland" near Clondalkin, south Dublin
Sir John Cole of Newland, co. Dublin, 1st Bart., MP, married Elizabeth Chichester, daughter of John Chichester of Dungannon, co. Tyrone.
He was made Custos Rotulorum for Co. Fermanagh and a baronet in 1661, being then in effect the head of the Cole family, because Sir Michael Cole, son of Sir John's elder brother, Michael Cole, did not come of age until about 1663.
Sir John Cole was one of the Commissioners appointed to implement the Acts of Settlement and Explanation (the Restoration land settlement in Ireland).
He died 1691 [1]
Sir John had a number of sons and daughters, many of whom died young.
In 1671, one of these daughters, Elizabeth, married as his second wife, her cousin, Sir Michael Cole.
John Cole was created 1st Baronet Cole of Newland in 1660. [2]
