Since his wife is Lady Mary, wouldn't he be Sir James?
posted by Patricia (Long) Kent
Not necessarily. He would only be Sir James Coleman if he was knighted, but his wife could be Lady Mary if she was the daughter of a Peer (Duke, Marquess, Earl) and would retain that title no matter who she married. However in this case it looks like she has no rights to be 'Lady Mary' and Lady should be removed as a prefix on her profile.

James Coleman was born in 1578. That means his son Richard was born when the father (James) was twelve. That is possible since the wife is four years older, however his three brothers Henry, John and William were born in 1600. Were they triplets or are the years in error? You might want to check. Just looks odd to me, but strange things happened in those days.
