Dorcas and her father Thomas Coleman were from Wiltshire, England. They immigrated to the Massachusetts Colony in 1635, traveling on the ship James that sailed from Southampton, England on April 5, 1635 and arrived in Boston on June 3, 1635. Thomas is listed on the Passenger List as a "laborer or Husbandman" under contract to Sir Richard Saltonstall and others to keep their cattle. Dorcas (age 9) is not listed, but apparently was among the "Children" referred to as a group who were traveling on board the ship.
Dorcas Coleman married John Tillotson in July 1648 in Newbury, Massachusetss. John is said to have traveled in 1635 aboard the same ship as Dorcas Coleman. Their first child was apparently born prematurely and died March 17, 1649. Their daughter Mary was born in 1650 and their son John was born in 1651. Another son James was born on December 19, 1652. Dorcas died on January 1, 1655 in Newbury, Massachusetts. After her death, John Tillotson m2) to Jane Evans and shortly moved the family to Connecticut.
Her DOB shown is actually the date of her christening at St. Mary's.
