I found out in about 1965 that my real last name was not Collier.
Our aunt came over from Hawaii to give us the beginnings of my interest in geneology. She told us that my paternal grandfather, her father, had been stationed at Fort Ruger in Hawaii during the war. He'd married her mother, and they had 3 children. After the birth of their 3rd, her mother became very ill. My grandfather asked for a leave of absence from the war to go home to see to her. He was refused. So he went AWOL. She died not long after, and he wanted to go back into the army so he could support his children. He couldn't do that, of course, so he and his best friend switched names and grandpa went back into the service.
After his service, his oldest daughter had been married and had a child of her own. She was caring for her younger sister and very young brother along with her own child.
Grandpa came to the mainland. Met and married my grandmother. Grandma knew about his 2 daughters from his previous marriage, but not about his son, who carried a different last name than he did!
So in 1965 we got to meet grandpa's oldest daughter, her husband and our uncle we never knew about! They gave us the foundation that got me started in geneology in 2002. I've built off that information!
During my research, I've met many Corn cousins in NC, SC, TN, NM, TX. Most of them had lost track of my grandfather because of his change of names. Some thought he'd died as a child. When we connected up, they were so happy to finally be able to resolve their geneology issues in regard to my grandfalther! It's been quite a journey!
I got stuck on my Corn line when I traced it back to Germany.
Looking forward to working with you all.
I'm still learning to navigate on here, so please be patient with me and all the mistakes I'm making and am sure to make in the future!

I sent you a message a while ago on behalf of the Germany Project and have yet to hear back from you. I hope you are well.
If I dont hear from you in the next week or so Ill assume you no longer wish to be in the project and go ahead and remove you. You would, of course, be most welcome to rejoin at any time via the G2G sign-up post.
Best wishes,
Kylie :-)
On behalf of the Germany Project, I am currently undergoing our member check-in's and wanted to verify that you are still interested in being a member of the project. Are you currently assigned to or working with one of our Sub-projects or Teams? We have many new teams so have a look on the Germany project page for the full list. I would be delighted to help you get setup in one or more of our collaborative teams!
We use Google groups for project collaboration, so if you are not yet setup, please submit a join request and we will get that approved as quickly as possible. We also ask that you check your follwed tags to make sure you are following the correct project tag (GERMANY) so you don't miss any disucssions in G2G.
We really appreciate your contributions on WikiTree, and thank you for all your hard work. If you have any questions please ask. I would also love to hear any feedback you may have for the project!

I havent heard back from you about the break up of the United Kingdom Project. I hope all is well with you. I assume you dont wish to join any of the country-level projects at present, and will go ahead and remove the United Kingdom badge. If you wish to join England, Scotland, Wales or Ireland in the future, you would be most welcome to do so via the respective G2G sign-up post.
Many thanks for all your contributions,
Susie :-)
We realise the time has come to dissolve the UK Project in favour of the individual country projects of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.
We are checking in with all UK badge holders to find out which country project(s) you would like to be in so you can collaborate with other members, have the opportunity to select which team(s) you would like to join, and so we can ensure you have all the correct badges.
Please respond by PM to let us know which country project(s) you would like to be in. Please dont assume we know. We are effectively starting from scratch to make sure no one falls through the cracks.
Once you have done this, the Coordinator for Membership in the relevant country project(s) will be in touch to help get you situated.
Many thanks,
Susie

Just checking in with a few quick tips:
Free Space pages are wiki pages for supplementing your family history. They can be used to profile anything of significance such as a special pet, a meaningful event, a school you attended, a family heirloom .... They're "anything pages".
Not sure what to include in a profile? Check out our Biography Ideas and Styles and Standards help pages.
Lastly, sometimes you'll run into unresponsive profile managers. We have a process for resolving those unfortunate situations.
If you have any questions, please ask!
