Biography

Andrew Lucion Collins was born 18 February 1890 in Emanuel County, Georgia, the son of William Collins and Margrett Moseley Collins[1]. In 1910 he lived with his parents and siblings in Emanuel County[2].

He registered for the draft for World War I, described as being of medium height and build, with brown eyes and black hair[3], and entered the Army 16 July 1918 in Swainsboro, Georgia[4].

He served in World War I in the 5th Company, Savannah Coast Artillery Corps, a division of the US Army[5].

In 1920 he lived with his parents and siblings in Oak Park, Emanuel County, Georgia[6].

He married Mamie Lee Powell 6 May 1920 in Emanuel County, Georgia. In 1930 they lived in Emauel County with their children Gladys, Leroy, Buford, Sibyl, and Ethel[7].

He was namedas next of kin on his son William Buford Collins World War II draft registration[8].

He died 3 March 1947 in Emanuel County, Georgia[9] and was buried in New Hope Church Cemetery, Nunez, Emanuel County, Georgia[1]. His son Leroy applied for a Military Veteran's headstone for his grave[5].

Funeral Rites for Lucion Collins

Lucion Collins, age 67, of Oak Park, Georgia, was found dead at his residence early last Tuesday morning. He was born in Emanuel County the son of Mrs. Margaret Mosley Collins and the late William Asberry Collins, of Emanuel County.
Besides his mother, he is survived by two sons: Leroy Collins and Buford Collins both of Oak Park; four daughters, Mrs. J. E. Kitchens and Miss Sybil Collins, both of Tifton; Miss Ethel Collins and Miss Cubia Collins both of Oak Park: three brothers, Lester Collins of Lyons, Dewey Collins of Lyons, Lee Collins of Stillmore; six sisters, Mrs. Maggie Collins, Aline; Mrs. Lula Driggers, Aline; Mrs. Ella Cannady, Aline; Mrs. Cassie Emanuel, Aline; Mrs. J. S. Lowe, Swainsboro; Mrs. Mettie Dillinger, Homestead, Florida. Funeral services were held from New Hope Primitive Baptist Church near Lexsy at 3:30 PM Wednesday with Reverend S. M. Claxton officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Linwood Cannady, Johnnie Driggers, Cleveland Vaughn, Pete Strange, Coy Youmans and C. C. Collins.
DeLoach Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
