Biography

His WWI draft registration states 6/17/1894 as birth date. Since he filled this out himself, I have used 1894 rather than 1893 as his birth date.[1] Vondrak-7 07:47, 19 April 2016 (EDT)

Obit
Walton M. Collins, Jr., well known citizen of this city passed away early this morning at 12:30 o'clock, at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.M. Collins, Sr., following an illness of some duration. Death was not unexpected as Mr. Collins has been in a serious condition for the past four months.
Mr. Collins was born in Carrolville, Ill., June 17, 1893, and at the time of his death was 34 years old, 1 month, and 4 days of age. With his parents he moved to Caruthersville in 1911, and since that time has made this city his home. In 1914 he was united in marriage with Miss Lillian Hudgings which union were born two children, Helen, 11 and another daughter who is dead. Following his marriage he and his wife moved to a farm above town, where they lived for three years and then moving to town where he was associated with his father in the real estate business. In 1920 he was appointed superintendent of the Waterworks Department. Which position he held until January of 1925, when on account of ill health he was forced to resign and go to another climate for his health.
Walt, as he was known to the people of Caruthersville, was a member of the Methodist church of this city, moving his membership from the Carrolville church to the church here at the time of moving to this city with his parents. He was a member of three branches of the Masonic Order--Blue Lodge, Knight Templar and the Shrine. He was also a member of the Elks, being secretary of that order for four or five years.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Lillian Collins, and one daughter, Helen, his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. W.M. Collins, Sr., a sister, Mrs. Earl Coppage, of Braggadocio, and a brother, Willard, who is at home.
The funeral services will be held at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.M. Collins, on Carleton ave., with the Rev. Elmer Peal, DeBolt, and C.P Thogmorton officiating. Interment will be made in Little Prairie Cemetery with services at the grave by the Masons and the Elks, both orders of which he was a member.
