Omer was born in 1901. He was the son of Otto Collins and Mary Moon. He passed away in 1989.

Watertown, Conn. - Omer Collins, 87, died Monday morning in the Watertown Convalarium after an extended illness.
Mr. Collins joined the Navy in 1920 as an enlisted man serving aboard the U.S.S. Dale as a radioman for six years. He was commissioned an ensign in the U.S. Naval Reserve in 1934. After being detached from active duty in 1935, he served as executive secretary of the Greater Marion Association. He was recalled to active duty in 1940 and assigned as assistant communication officer at the Norfolk Navy Yard in Portsmith, Va. From 1944 to 1945, he was director of procurement and distribution of communications officer on the staff of Adm. Chester W. Nimitz, commander of naval forces in the Pacific. He served in that same capacity in the office of the Chief of Naval Operation, Washington, D.C, from 1945 to 1947, at which time he was given the rank of commander.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; a son Bruce, Scottsdale, Ariz.; seven grandchldren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be Wednesday morning in Raven Funeral Home, Kem Rd, Marion, with the Rev. Phil Stephens officiating. Burial will be in Grant Memorial Park cemetery, Marion.
