Biography

Rutherford Lodrix Collins was the son of Amelia Ann Goodwin (1861-1938) and Thomas Washington Collins (1861-1926). When Rutherford Lodrix Collins was born on February 22, 1900, his father, Thomas, was 38 and his mother, Amelia, was 38. He married Icy Era Cornelius on November 12, 1921, in Rock Spring, Alabama. They had three children in 18 years. He died on September 27, 1983, in Albertville, Alabama, at the age of 83.

Rutherford's Great-Grandparents were Solomon W. Collins (1837-1863) and Martha J Johnston (1840-1918). Solomon fought in the Civil War in Company G, 22nd Regiment, Alabama Infantry. He was killed sometime before March 3, 1863 as his widow filed a claim on that date for settlement (claim for back pay owed) with the Office of the Confederate States Auditor for War Dept. Martha had two children with Solomon, Sarah E. Collins (b. 22 Nov 1859 in Randolph County) and Thomas Washington Collins (b. 4 Dec 1861 in Alabama). After the war ended, Martha married James Young Moultrie and had seven children. Martha and James are buried at Rock Springs Cemetery as are at least three of their children.
