  • Walter Collyns/Collins lived in Cardiff, Wales[1] and married Felix Baudrib. [1] It appears he owned land in Stansted, Essex County, England. [1].
  • Marriage - In her book on early Americans, Harriet Barns states that parish records show Walter's 3 Sep 1594 marriage in Cardiff, Wales to Felix [2]The marriage is also documented in Hovey[1]
  • 1596 - birth of daughter, Felix[3]
  • Sometime later (perhaps circa 1620), the family moves to Stansted, England (200 mi NE from Cardiff) [1]
  • Barns[2] explains the confusion of Walter's surname "Collyns" with "Olcott" citing a probate record bequeath of money to a William Lewis:
- "... Thomas Olcott bequeathing one pound to William Lewis as "brother" in his will, but this could have been a church "brother "
  • The much stronger support for surname "Collyns" is a land deed by Walter Collyns, late of Cardiff, Wales, to " my son-in-law, William Lewes ". [2] The land in question is identified by naming the current occupant, one John Talcolt. We know that William Lewis brought his wife and child to America in 1632.[4] What establishes Collyns' relationship to Lewes is found in the passenger list for the ship "Lion", which sailed from England to Massachusetts in June of 1632, including passengers William Lewis, his wife Felix (Collyns), their son William and one John Talcott.
- "...now of Stanstead, Essex conveys to my son-in-law William Lewys of S. Messuage, etc, now in the occupation of John Talcolt late of Braintree...&c".
Note: In the 16th century "S. Messauge, etc." S. referred to Stanstead, and messauge was the term for 'residence', 'dwelling and outbuildings' [5]. While using the term "late of" in legal documents to identify a person often refers to a death, in this case it likely refers to a former residence.
Children with Felix:
- Felix (1596-1671) m. William Lewis
