In the War of 1812, he joined Jackson's army in the war against the Creek Indians.
Henry moved from Sevier County, Tennessee, to Rhea County in 1813 where he farmed 456 acres in the southern part of the county. Along with his farm he developed a tan yard and a distillery and he was licensed as a tavern owner. Henry became a Justice of the Peace, and held the office of Sheriff of Rhea County for three terms, from 1831 to 1836. He afterwards returned to his duties as Justice of the Peace. Henry invested in property in Dekalb County, AL and moved there about 1842. He later sold all his land to his sons. His wife died in DeKalb County in 1847. Henry passed away at the home of his son James Pierce Collins, in Rhea County on October 28, 1848.
