Margery (Collins) Williams immigrated to New England as a child during the Puritan Great Migration (1621-1640).
Margery Collins was the "daughter of Henry Collins of Ratcliffe Highway, starchmaker, & Anne." She was baptized at St Dunstan, Stepney, Middlesex, England on November 13, 1633, at seven days old, which would place her birth on November 6.[1][2][3]
Margery immigrated New England at about age one with her parents and two older siblings on the Abigail, which arrived at Boston, Massachusetts, about October 8, 1635. She and her family first settled in Lynn, Massachusetts.[1][3]
Marriage
Margery married Isaac Williams, cordwainer of Salem Massachusetts, certainly by 1660, but probably several years earlier. There is no record of their marriage, but Isaac in his will refers to Margery's brother Henry as "my brother Henry Collins." Margery Williams was admitted to Salem First Church on the "Lord's Day" following the church meeting of March 27, 1664. Their four eldest children were baptized at Salem First Church on June 5, 1664. Husband Isaac died in 1696.[1][4][5][6][7][8]
Death
The death of Margery Williams is not recorded in the Vital Records of Salem, Massachusetts. However, she was "of Salem" when she made her mark on her will, October 5, 1702. The will was probated October 12, 1702. In the will, she mentioned sons, Isaac and Ebenezer (executor), and daughters, Sarah Lander and Elizabeth Mansfield.[9]
Children (Williams)
The list of the children of Isaac and Margery (Collins) Williams has initially been reconstructed from Salem birth records and from the baptismal records of Salem's First Church. Daughter Elizabeth's birth on August 23, 1660, is the earliest recorded birth, although daughters Sarah and Deborah are presumed to have been born earlier despite the fact that both weren't baptized until June 5, 1664. This presumption is based partly on the order in which they were mentioned in the codicil to their father's will, "Sarah, ... Deborah, ... Elizabeth," and also on the fact that daughter Deborah married Joseph Gray on August 10, 1675, just eleven years after her baptism.[10][11][12]
Children of Isaac and Margery (Collins) Williams, Salem births and baptisms:[4]
Sarah Williams, born perhaps 1654, baptized June 5, 1664 (" 5: 4m: 1664");[5][13] married John Lander, published at Salem October 4, 1777.[14][4]
Deborah Williams, born perhaps 1656, baptized June 5, 1664 ("5: 4m: 1664");[5][15][4] married (1), August 10, 1675 ("10:6 m:1675"), Joseph Gray; married (2), June 14, 1690, James Holgrave.[16][17][18][19] Not mentioned in mother's will of October 5, 1702.
