Curtis Compton Dies in Calif.
Curtis Compton, long-time Southern Nevada resident and a maintenance engineer died Wednesday at City of Hope in Duarte, Calif., where he had been undergoing treatment for cancer.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m.Saturday at Bunker Brother Mortuary with Rev. Walter Hanne, pastor of the First Presbyterian Curch, officiating.
Compton, 45, had lived in Southern Nevada since 1945. He resided at 10 Ocean in Henderson with his wife, Ellen, a 17-year-old son, Curtis Jr., and 14 year-old daughter, Cathy.
He first worked at the Henderson Industrial complex as a security guard during the war after which he was a sergeant on the Henderson police force for three years. After leaving the police department, he worked for a time at the old Royal Club in Henderson. he was a member of the Clark County Sheriff's Department for four years.
Compton is survived by his brothers, Dist. Judge William P. Compton, Dr. Edgar L. Compton of Las Vegas and his mother, Mrs. Marcia Compton, 82, who lives with Edgar. His three sisters are Mrs. Douglas Lavers of Stanford, Conn.;; Mrs. Theodore Rockwell of Bethesda, Md.; and Cleo Walker of Las Vegas.
