Zachariah COMPTON held the rank of Private in Lieutenant-Colonel Elias Edmonds's Virginia Artillery Regiment (First Virginia State Regiment of Artillery) during the Revolutionary War. But it seems that, as late as 1782, Zachariah COMPTON continued to reside in Charles County, Maryland. He later moved to Culpeper County, Virginia and is said to have died in Bluefield, Mercer County, [West] Virginia while visiting one of his sons.
