Biography

Cornelius Compton III (my numbering by birth order to keep all the Cornelius Comptons in our line straight), was born about 1738. He married Hannah Mount 23 Dec 1756, needing her mother Elizabeth's consent for the marriage, Hannah's father having been dead already for many years. I deduce from this that Hannah was very young at her marriage to Cornelius III. Poor Cornelius died only about a year later, probably in 1757.

Per Comptonology vol 1 no 3 page 2, this Cornelius Compton's will was probated January 14, 1758. His father William was co-administrator with Samuel Tilton. George Taylor and Jonathan Stout made inventory of the estate. The will fails to mention whether Cornelius had issue with Hannah Mount.

Hannah married David Stout on 9 April, 1759, after Cornelius III's death in 1758. Elsewhere I have seen a son John mentioned for Cornelius III and Hannah Mount, but this requires more research. The David Stout she married was possibly the son of the Jonathan Stout who made inventory of Cornelius' estate.

Comptonology vol 2 no 8 page 37 mentions the details of Cornelius' marriage to Hannah Mount and her family circumstances at the time.
