This Richard Compton of Monmouth has the same DOD as a Richard Compton supposedly born in Monmouth, who perhaps died intestate in Somerset, New Jersey in 1782. Could be related or a duplicate. That Richard: Richard Compton (1702-1782). That profile is thinly sourced and possibly conflated with a son (sigh).

If he's not a duplicate and this Richard stayed in Monmouth, there is an interesting probate for a Richard Compton of Monmouth County, who died intestate before 19 Mar 1784 (Joseph Compton, administrator). He was the father of Jenny (Compton) Ferrel and Priscilla (Compton) Hinckson/Hingston. Priscilla's husband sided with the British, they later left the U.S., and when dad died Jenny petitioned for her sister's share of her inheritance (which was 1/4 part, so possibly there were other siblings to inherit--including possibly the Joseph who was administrator). See https://archive.org/details/documentsrelatin35newj/page/88/mode/2up

I can't dig further on this line today, but maybe someone (or a future version of myself) will pick up these crumbs.
